Studio SQI recently spent two days with the other Magic Fight kids recording at Studio SQ in San Francisco. Guided by magic visionary, Alex Haager, we tracked two songs that will eventually become the band’s new single.

There is quite a lot of engineering talent and crazy gear at the studio. They know what they are doing. It sounds good, it looks good, it smells good. We love it. Co-Owner and Engineer, Jeremy Rosenblum, has a lot of experience and was fantastic at leading us through the process, while studio Manager, Sierra Frost, was sincerely welcoming and helpful. We want to go back!

Do you want to hear the new songs now?  You can! We will be playing them live at Brick and Mortar in San Francisco on Tuesday Sept 3. THE SHOW IS FREE!

A new and exciting challenge arises for me as I join San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music as Social Media Associate. The organization’s Musical Grants Program, Fiscal Sponsorship Program and diverse concert series add volumes to the vibrancy of the music scene in the Bay Area. The upcoming SF Music Day LIVE + FREE promises to bring more than thirty performances to Bay Area audiences in two days, for free!

My goal is to help the organization become a connecting platform for all things music and all music people.

And I mustn’t forget to say that you’d be missing out if you didn’t find us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter and Instagram. Seriously.

Let’s start with Thanks! Alex Pinto!

The amazing musician who blessed the Bay Area music scene with his genius for a little over four years. He is in India now, researching Hindustani music as a Fulbright Scholar.

During his time in the Bay Area he taught hundreds of middle school students about what it takes to be a musician, the discipline, the immersed focus. He also co-created the SFOffside Festival alongside star music promoter Laura Maguire. In its 2012 and 2013 editions, the three day event featured mega-talented Bay Area musicians and received much acclaim by the press.

That’s not all, he released an album “Inner State” and married his college sweetheart, the wonderful Camille Schmah. All in four years, and some of it while gliding through a corporate job some can only dream to have. He cooks too!

So you get the idea, this guy makes amazing things look easy. A very INSPIRING man. He managed to get the best from me during every conversation, making me feel that I was capable of more and more. I can only imagine what he will achieve in the next few years.

My biggest hope is that one day I will get another text from Pinto that reads: “legs are in the oven”. I’ll drop whatever I’m doing and head his way. (Chicken legs, that is).

It begins tonight. Can we borrow your white Camaro? How about some hair gel instead?

The kids in Magic Fight, myself included, will be shooting a music video in 48 hours for the Music Video Race. There will be pros involved so no fear.

We’ll be performing live at the screening on Saturday June 15 at the Rickshaw Stop. You should get tickets.

Here are some of my favorites from last year’s race.

On May 23, 24 and 25 I had the pleasure to document the second annual San Francisco Offside Festival. Produced by Bay Area music scene champions and friends Laura Maguire and Alex Pinto, the event featured prominent local Jazz heavyweights including Mads Tolling, Howard Wiley and Jordan Glen to name a few.

Beyond taking pictures for the event, I had the opportunity to create digital photo cards and much of the digital imagery used by the festival. You can take a look at the photo cards on the sfoffside website.

Whenever he’s not on Mars schedule or zeroing in on one of his creations, you get to hang out with the Gist.

I met Jeff through another very talented friend, Jessica Nguyen (you should meet her too!), and have been frequently impressed by his kindness and creativity. The man has multiple talents and skills, song-craft (check his Soundcloud feed), drumming (he plays with Magic Fight), singing (here’s evidence), creating animations of 3D manatees (coming soon), and many other talents that may not have been reported yet.

What does he do for a living? Nobody really knows, but the assumption is that if you are under prescribed medication it is very likely that you are consuming one of his biochemical inventions. What we do know is that 9AM for you is 9PM for him and so on. Think about that before you invite him out for breakfast.

Who Is? I want you to meet some of my best friends and inspirations. This is one of them.
